This is an attempt to describe some of the non-academic issues teachers are involved in, which are crucial to the smooth development of our program.
Attendance and punctuality
Be on time for class.
Do your very best not to be absent, but if you must, try to find a substitute teacher. Contact Academic Affairs office at ICANA Centro or ICANA Belgrano for the necessary arrangements. Please do so as promptly as possible and give them complete information on what the substitute teacher is expected to do.
Be ready to collaborate by substituting for colleagues.
After substituting for a colleague, please leave a note or send an email to the teacher of the course stating what he/she should go on with the following class and inform attendance, too.
Administrative work
Recording Students’ Attendance and Grades:
Keep information updated daily.
Make sure every month contains:
- List of students recorded in alphabetical order by last names without leaving any blank line in between.
- Student’s corresponding registration number
- Student’s concept grade per month.
- Attendance to every class: P = present , A= absent, L= late, O=observing, not enrolled.
- Tests grades in the special area in the roster.
Make sure that every student registered in your class is listed in the attendance book and vice versa. You need to check this on Sistema de Alumnos. In order to ensure this the very first class, check that your students’ receipts bear the right code number.
Incorporate new students by adding them to the bottom of the list and recording the date in which they join the course.
Record information about students or provided by the students relevant to the attendance or compliance with the course in the area for notes on every month’s page.
Report to Admissions or Academic Affairs office on any discrepancy on point two above.
Teachers of children and teen courses are requested to submit report cards on a bimonthly basis. Ask Academic Affairs office at ICANA Centro or ICANA Belgrano for guidelines.
Teaching Materials
Digital documents: course contents, class plans by unit, students’ booklets, extra materials, exams, exams keys and audios in digital form can be accessed by teachers at ICANA Online Campus online.
Books (Teacher’s books, Student books, Workbooks), CDs, DVDs, and/or remote controls have to be requested by teachers from BCL well in advance.
Stationary materials such as white board markers have to be requested by teachers from BCL well in advance.
Midterm and Final Exams
Teachers must request the necessary number of print copies of the exams for the students to work on from the corresponding office well in advance. Audios for the tests are to be downloaded from the campus.
Exam grades must be recorded both on the attendance book and digital Final Exam Form. Ask for the guidelines on how to do so at Academic Affairs office, if necessary.
All corrected exams (midterm and final) for every course have to be rendered at Academic Affairs office at the end of each period together with 2 print copies of the completed Final Exam Form signed by both teachers in charge of administering the final exams, and a print list of students registered in the course.
These 3 elements: exams bunch, Final Exam Forms and student’s list should be bound together with a paper strap reading date, course code, level, schedule and teacher’s name.
Make up tests and Second Chance Make up tests
Evaluations are carried out within class time. Students who cannot come on the day of the administration can arrange to reschedule the test. To do so, students should contact Students Service Office (Alejandra Castagnous acastagnous@icana.org.ar and Nora Blas nblas@icana.org.ar ) by mail.
To be promoted to the following level, students have to pass both the final oral and written evaluations. It can sometimes happen that an average student unexpectedly fails a test. In that case, a second chance can be granted. The teacher should contact Academic Affairs Office to ask for this second chance that we call ¨second chance make up test¨.
The grading scale for all assessment instruments is the following:
1 to 5- non passing grade , 6- passing grade, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10
Report Cards and Promotion Cards
Teachers have to record exam results and the level to which students are promoted or transferred either on the Report Card in case of teen students or a Certificate of Completion in case of adult students. Certificates of Completion must be signed by the two teachers in charge of the final oral exam and handed out to students or rendered at Students Affairs office at the end of each course.
Institutional and professional commitment
Attend in-service teacher meetings and development programs.
Use English in all the areas where you may find students.
Take on the role of hosts / hostesses and assist / orient students who seem to need some help (Try to do it in English, if it doesn’t work, switch to Spanish).
Read all the emails sent to Teachers and all the announcements that are posted in the teachers’ room. Remember to check your institutional email account regularly.
Communicate with Academic Affairs office at ICANA Centro or ICANA Belgrano on any issues endangering the expected outcome of the program or on any other matters in which you might need guidance or help concerning your work.
Observe ICANA dress code.
